Getting Un”stuck”

So….what do you do when you feel as if your thoughts are pulling you downwards into a dark black hole? I am
not even talking about depression. Just simply lack of motivation, general lack of enthusiasm, the seeming
inability to see the silver lining around the dark cloud?

Worse than this, you actually want to get yourself out of this self-pitying sinkhole…you really want to get
back to a place where you are feeling buoyant and in control and enthusiastic and inspired….

It really sucks that your default thought patterns go towards the negative…where before you used to always be
the positive, optimistic, fun one in the room.

How does one get to this point? How did it happen in my case?

Was it gradual? Did I allow my thoughts to gradually go off the desired track? Did I become the figurative frog
in the slowly heating water, heading for a boiling death?

However it happened, it needs to stop and it needs to stop NOW!

So in line with the old adage “a fool with a plan, will outsmart a genius without a plan”…I’ve decided I need
a PLAN!

With a plan, I will feel more confident. I will have direction. The plan will kill the indecisiveness -poison. The
plan will serve as my antidote and my commitment & persistence to the plan will be the immunisation against
contracting this disease of pessimism again!

THE PLAN:

-Understand and remember that God has a greater plan for my life
-I will change my words
-I will change my thoughts
-I will change my body language
-I will be thankful for all I have
-I will focus on solutions not on problems.
-I will find (identify) things/goals that excite me
-I will get excited about new goals
-I will take massive action on those goals
-I will change my scenery
-I will reject ANY negative words, thoughts, actions immediately & replace these with something productive, helpful and  positive

This is my plan and for now I am sticking to it!

Have you had this kind of ‘slump’ before? Would you mind sharing what got you out of it?

  1. Seems like a sound plan!! PERMANENT change can ONLY start with-in (my words, my thoughts, my etc.). Inside change will make space for new opportunities to presents itself….. God bless

  2. A very thought provoking piece….and I’m sure there are many of us who have been in this ‘slump’ at various times. I call it the roller-coster of life, and I have found that the best way to get out of this is to do the following:
    1. Sit in a quiet place and breathe deeply
    2. Relax any tense muscles (close your eyes if you need to)
    3. Think of all the wonderful things in your life to be grateful for, and say a huge ‘thank you’
    4. Picture in your mind the sort of life you would like to lead
    5. List the qualities you would like to have, that could lead you to this point.
    6. Make a mental list of the steps you would need to follow to make one of those qualities a reality
    7. Listen to the negative thoughts (I can’t do that, I don’t have time….etc) and replace them with positive thoughts. This is not easy but your subconscious will hear you and will believe you.
Sounds simple, but somehow it makes you feel as if you are in charge once more, and that anything is possible.
